Just beginning, or the middle, or all downhill from here..

so it's the summer solstice, at least according to google at least in the northern hemisphere at least, well here, the longest day of the year, "midsummer" and the first day of summer.

ok now.. I can accept solstice and midsummer or even the beginning of summer but midsummer and the first day of? Does that not make any sense to anyone but me?? Am I the only one paying any attention around here????

It's all wrong anyway. The solstice is on the 21st. I don't know why I insist on that and it seems to waver around the 20th to the 22nd but I feel it's on the 21st and the 21st it's on. And midsummer is the middle of summer, that is the halfway point between the first day of summer and the last, again, that should be the middle of July. Why? Well glad you asked. I've also decided to just do away with all the confusion and make all the changes on the beginning of the month, keep simple, keep it going by calendar date with well defined borders, so first day of spring is 1st of March, beginning of winter is 1st of December etc, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, which of course is the one which corresponds with those seasons.

Speaking of hemispheres, I may feel this way because of my southern background. I do of course hail from the southern of the hemispheres, and I don't know if it's just because it's done that way there or I never really paid enough attention to realize otherwise, but I remember considering the changes of the season from the beginning of the month, so, 1st of September, it's spring! No waitin around for the middle of the month, we're there already. This could be because of a couple of reasons, one, that I never really paid attention and it's not actually the case, or, coming from a European culture we celebrate holidays that evolved out of NH seasons, so there's not much point in lining up the seasons with those holidays and less reason to start spring or summer in the middle of the damn month. Just speculating really.

Anyway, it's just gone 9:22 and the sun is going down on (one of the ) the longest day of the year, from now on, it's all downhill (unless there's more tomorrow afterall) right up until the deep dark days of December. Hey I just alliterated. Happy Solstice!

So I guess it's summer then..

There are places to live that work with summer, or rather, quite hot to really hot weather, or at least are more suited to the weather that is described by most to be "too hot"... this is not one of them. Having no sea, and fewer swimming options than many city/countries/areas and a not short (at least when it's 30+ degrees) walk to the nearest cool-ish area, let alone place where one can get in water, is more than typically unsuited to this sort of weather ie the weather we are experiencing now. oh and.. tour guiding.. in this weather? Not exactly a whole lot of fun. *fans self and stuff*

And for another year...

summer, in the Northern Hemisphere anyway, in those places that have such things as winter and summer, in the more temperate places which don't stay really warm really late, is pretty much over. It's officially autumn post equinox if you pay attention to that sort of thing and after getting warm again here it's gotten colder again and rained some and been grey and though it's supposed to warm up again.. I think we can say it's just not summer anymore. At all. The sun's going down really early already.

Nevermind. It's not like I was going swimming and waterskiing and doing summer fun stuff anyway, and I do like the golden beauty of the leaves this time of year, oh, and Vinobrani... love the vinobrani.. but most important of all..

War on Christmas* is coming!

Can't wait. *gets devilish look in eye*

*not that it really happens here well that it at all happens here but I don't really get out anyway and pretty much spend my life on the internet so it's a thing.

Oh my.. *fans self*

What does it take to have a nice, warm, sunny with maybe a few lovely fluffy clouds, no rain, but not too hot day? Huh? I mean yeah yesterday was pretty nice and we've had quite a few pretty decent days that even fell on the weekend so far this year, but just what does it take?

It seems that no sooner do you get used to the fact that it's spring/summer and hoping it will stop raining for a while and get just warm enough to hang outside for a bit, that it hits 30 bloody degrees already!

I mean not exactly, but it did that today. In June.. early June! I don't know what this means for the rest of the summer, probably nothing at all, but here we are. And despite, actually maybe because of the fact I come form a place that gets much warmer and for much more of the year, I do whine on and on about it. I'm already carrying on like it's the end of the world while most people are exclaiming on how wonderful it is and isn't this the awesomest weather ever! No, it isn't. It's to hot. I may have mentioned it already.

It's a while since I went on about the weather. On this blog I mean, not in general. Guess it was about time I posted about that again. Happy summer! (those that are experiencing summer that is)

Summer appears to have arrived.

It's June, so it should be. I know there's an official beginning of some sort but to me it's June it's summer dammit. Well, in this case it seems to work. Nothing else to say except this is what today, June 7 looks like.

Dorking out..

Well not today June 7 but June 7 years past. 3 years ago to be precise.

And it's a good night from me.

Right among it.

There's nothing like this time of year when it gets warm enough to keep the windows open, (or too warm to not, or you get distracted cooking and burn stuff so you need to open all the windows wide to let all the smoke out which is actually the case in this instance) and warm enough for people to be hanging out more at night, and travelling around and staying in the hostel across the street, and walking instead of taking the tram, and well actually since last summer they've moved the tram stop up so it's right in front of our door which is cool but it's also right under the window.

People sure do chatter a lot. And yell. And they sometimes sing, often in Spanish. You notice when you live right in the middle of it all. People coming and going, doing things, engaging with other people, having lives.. right there, under my feet. It makes me feel like I'm a part of the world, from my little station here where I write stuff, sometimes, and in general spend time doing, I don't know what, but here I do it. I'm not really though, part of the world, that is. Not usually. Occasionally I do a thing but, well, I did something last month and I reckon that's probably it for a while, although it is summer and that is when so much tends to happen that even I find myself out in it. I guess I'll see.

6.29.2012

Ah summertime..

Shenanigans..

This is the sort of thing that goes on. :)

6.22.2012

Thanks, weather gods..

Just keep it up.

Summer is here, finally. I know the official beginning was 2 days ago.. something that I just officially became aware of but vaguely knew before.. (isn't it weird that midsummer is the beginning of summer, it makes no sense! what the hell northern hemisphereans) but it's finally warm and nice and not overcast all the time and only rains when it storms which is often if not usually if not exclusively in the evening.. and I quite like it.

Last night it was particularly welcome.. in the outdoors under the stars (actually under the still shining very brightly sun, right in my face if you want to be specific) at the open theatre in Vyšehrad..watching A Midsummer Night's Dream. Worked perfectly. Play was pretty good as well, despite the seating by the side of the stage which had us looking right into the sun for the first act..

So anyway, still nice, still warm, not raining. I'd just like it to carry on like this for a while.

6.20.2012

And the sun sets..

on this, the longest day of the year.. Northern Hemisphere, 2012. Yes, you're right. That is if you were thinking.. er.. isn't it usually the 21st of June that's the solstice? I mean.. I guess it isn't the same every year but isn't it usually the 21st. Well it is. At least I think so.. but 2012 for some astronomical reason.. it's on the 20th, which is today. So happy longest day everyone. I mean, and shortest day if it is for you.. not sure if the exact opposite is true.. but if it is happy that one.

That means summer is here officially. I think it had a head start a few days ago.. been hot, also rainy, sometimes a bit cooler than hot and a bit overcast at times.. but that's to be expected.

Oh.. done with film #2.. not bad.. only Wednesday and already have 2 films under my belt. I mean.. not literally..

Still another one to go in about a week. *feels all proud of self and stuff*

8.31.2011

Wow.. is it that time already?

Last day o August, and last day of summer as far as I'm concerned.. I know here in the Northern Hemisphere the change of the seasons is always around the 21st or thereabouts but I always consider them for the first of the month, you can disagree all you like but that how it is.. so.. starting tomorrow, we are in Autumn.

Not to regrettable imho.. this summer's been, well, average, one too hot week and otherwise.. bleh.. whatev. And I like the autumn, or fall as some of you say, it's nice, it's pretty, it's charming.

Can't believe it's already almost September.. wow.. nearing the end of the year, getting into those months where tinkling tinsel things will be up in the shops although, this is more to do with the ridiculously long part of the year that season takes up, but still.. seems like the year just began and.. fuck, what have I done? Oh.. got a new job, fair enough, went some places, fine, but one (modest student) film and one.. er, project thingy. And a few castings for stuff I obvs wasn't called back for, that's it! And I still haven't gotten around to sending out those emails to all those agencies.. don't know why I keep putting it off.. oh yeah, need to do that *makes note*

well.. I finally put up some videos, no films, nothing that could really be called acting but.. it's a start but it's possible a start is all it will ever amount to.. well, I'll see. Oh yeah, need to work more on that stuff, and all the other million ideas I've written down and did some work in organizing.. well.. I've done that.

I suppose I haven't done badly by my standards, but, they are my standards and you know how that goes..

4 months still..

7.31.2011

Please August...

Can we have summer back? At least for a little bit?

Thanks...

7.16.2010

Ok now I think that's enough.

I don't know if it's this hot where you are, but it is here. It hasn't let up yet, this unbearable heat. A couple of days have hovered around 26 or 27 around the earlier morning hours and looked for a while like it might be a "nice" day.. that is sunny, blue skied and not stupidly hot, but they all ended up stupidly hot by noon.

Honestly what does one do with this weather? If you ain't got anywhere good to swim, or everything air conditioned you just.. whine. I guess that's my answer.

*continues grumbling*

6.04.2010

*gets all pleased and stuff*

It was sunny and warm today! And it's supposed to be sunny and warm all weekend!

They say it's short lived though.

*weeps and stuff*

6.01.2009

Not to be all hemispherist or anything, but..

Happy summer. I don't know if it's supposed to start on the 1st of June or on the 19th or something when the moon is in uranus and the twilight catches the raindrops on the horse or some such nonsense, but where I come from seasons start on the 1st of the calendar month, none of this nature fucking hippy bullshit.. of course I come from the southern hemisphere where it isn't summer today either way, and no easily digested, though unevenly divided units of time, when they start, and what the significance of the one in relation to the change of season is makes no difference no how.

Well.. nice to see I'm back to maing no sense there.. oh wait.. I never stopped doing that did I?

Maybe for about 12 seconds.
